Swarm Series
Affordable, easy to manage Encrypted IP SAN Storage HIFN Swarm Appliances
deliver the benefits of storage networking to small and mid-sized business
including encryption, storage consolidation, centralized management, automatic
backup, high availability and seamless integration with the Microsoft operating
environment. An ideal alternative to today's costly and far more complex fibre
channel alternatives, the Swarm is an ideal solution for remote sites where people
come and go.
Automated snapshot with integrated backup
Imagine Storage that backs it self up. Utilizing HIFN snapshot technology combined with your existing backup software, the Swarm may also
be configured as a backup server. The Swarm can send its data directly to your "disk to disk" or tape environment. No more clogging up
your network. Simple attach your "disk to disk" or tape library to the back of a Swarm, setup your Swarm snapshot policy, setup your
backup policy and let the Swarm back itself up. Imagine backing up the data from multiple servers at one time.

iSCSI Boot Technology
HIFN Swarm series solutions now ship with iSCSI Boot capability for simplified server management and more robust disaster recovery.
iSCSI Boot enables booting using standard Ethernet adapters and enables cost efficient Siafu Swarm IP SAN Appliances to boot Microsoft
Windows 2003 servers (including Microsoft Windows 2003 R2) to reduce storage costs.

The first IP SAN Storage utilizing RAID 6
RAID 6 is the latest storage technology designed for high capacity hard drives and storage arrays. It extends RAID 5 functionality by adding
an additional parity stripe across all drives in the array. Drive capacities continue to rise and larger drive capacities force longer re-build
times on drive failures, often lasting 5 to 10 hours. In a typical RAID 5 environment, an additional drive failure during a rebuild means that
all of your data is lost. RAID 6 allows 2 drives to fail before losing any data for those using large capacity drives.

The first IP Storage SAN utilizing RAID 51™ & RAID 61™
For even more peace of mind, Siafu offers storage built on RAID 51/61 technology. Automatic active/active failover and multiple access
paths give you confidence that your most critical applications and data are protected. Designed to enhance the Microsoft iSCSI experience,
RAID 51/61 utilizes a proprietary synchronization algorithm that links two swarm boxes together. These two swarm boxes appear to the
Microsoft iSCSI initiator as one. Either may be removed without any data interference. Microsoft MPIO technology automatically switches to
the existing box. Once reconnected, the Swarm software automatically synchronizes the two boxes allowing the ultimate in high availability
protection.
